Some medical films must be kept longer than the standard five to 10 years, the company noted, and those on cellulose acetate-based film could degrade over time. SourceHOV’s program assess the potential for image loss and preserves the image.

X-ray films are scanned and digitized to produce legal DICOM images. Patient demographic and exam data from the film study are captured and maintained in a database. The digital images and associated index are temporarily stored on a portable hard drive for uploading to the customer’s system or network, or they can be saved in cloud-based storage. Protected health information standards are maintained in the process, the company said.
