Pegasus Imaging received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration last month for its PICTools Medical Compression Toolkit (

PNN

8/98). PICTools consists of five compression technologies, including high-speed lossless JPEG, lossy JPEG, and wavelet compression.

The Tampa, FL-based company claims that PICTools is the only library of compression technologies approved by the FDA that includes a comprehensive set of lossless and lossy compression. Pegasus also announced that it has made licensing agreements with various teleradiology developers and clinics, some of which will display PICTools technology at the RSNA show this month.
