The announcement was released at the 2004 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition being held this week in Orlando, Fla.
"The rapid pace of technological change often renders computing technology obsolete in less than three years," explained Michael Cline, Omnicell's vice president of service. "OmniEvolve is a proactive, non-obsolescence program designed to help customers manage technology risk."
"OmniEvolve upgrades mission-critical servers in the Omnicell computing environment, enabling systems to evolve with advances in computer technology, avoiding unnecessary obsolescence and maximizing capital investment," Cline said.
OmniEvolve is prescribed as an "integral part of a system life-cycle management strategy."
The capital costs associated with a typical computing technology upgrade can be prohibitive, Cline said, especially when combined with the soft-dollar impact of performance and reliability degradation over the life of a system. As part of a comprehensive service strategy, OmniEvolve effectively avoids these costs in two ways:
-- It provides a simple, predictable method of amortization as an operating expense; and -- It ensures a reliable, guaranteed upgrade path to the latest technology at predetermined milestones. Other program benefits include: -- Four-year service plan reflects Omnicell's long-term product commitment. -- Amortizing monthly expenses reduces capital equipment costs. -- The program increases the value of existing systems and extends useful life. -- Existing Omnicell systems can benefit from immediate performance and reliability enhancements via an accelerated upgrade option. -- Automatic upgrade deployments are tracked and implemented by Omnicell's dedicated service organization.
