Marquette Electronics reported signing an agreement this month to purchase Corometrics Medical Systems from parent American Home Products. Corometrics markets Aloka's line of ob/gyn ultrasound scanners.
Milwaukee-based Marquette, which manufactures patient monitoring devices, will continue to maintain the OEM relationship with Aloka, according to the company.
Japan-based Aloka tied with GE for second place in the U.S. ob/gyn segment in 1992 with an 18% market share (SCAN 7/28/93). Aloka assumed direct sales and marketing of its scanners outside the ob/gyn segment in 1990 (SCAN 8/15/90).
Marquette will acquire Wallingford, CT-based Corometrics for $73 million. The deal is subject to the approval of the board of American Home Products, as well as federal antitrust authorities.
