Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry manufacturer Lunar of Madison,WI, will split a $4.2 million damage award after winning a patentinfringement claim against a manufacturer of airport baggage scannersthat use dual-energy technology. A jury found that EG&G Astrophysicsviolated the patent, and ruled that Lunar and co-plaintiff theUniversity of Alabama-Birmingham Research Foundation were entitledto split the award.
Lunar does not manufacture baggage scanning devices, but doesintend to sublicense rights to its technology to baggage-scannerdevelopers, the company said.
