Lindgren RF Enclosures purchased the assets of a second Californiashielding company this month. The acquisition further strengthensthe firm's position on the West Coast.
While Lindgren's MRI shielding business is secondary to itscommercial and government work, the new businesses will strengthenLindgren's overall product portfolio and help the firm expandoverseas, said president William Curran.
Lindgren, based in Glendale Heights, IL, purchased the assetsof ShieldCo International of Ontario, CA, in July (SCAN 9/11/91).This business will be combined with that of LectroMagnetics (LMI)to form Lindgren's LectroMagnetics (West Coast) division. Thedivision will be based at the LectroMagnetics facility in LosAngeles, Curran said.
LectroMagnetics was the leading supplier of welded rooms usedin industrial and government shielding applications, he said.
"We looked at the LMI acquisition as an opportunity toexpand our domestic market presence in the industrial and governmentarea. It also provides us with a broader portfolio of productsto offer in the international market, which is becoming far moreactive," Curran told SCAN.
MRI radio-frequency and magnetic shielding remains Lindgren'slargest business, but the anticipated growth of new MRI installationsin the U.S. is expected to drop off. International MRI installations, however, should proliferate.
"We experienced phenomenal growth as a result of MR: 40%plus a year," Curran said. "That is going to slow down.Input from (scanner) manufacturers indicates that the (U.S.) growthrate is tapering off. Overseas, that is not the case," hesaid.
Lindgren is already active in Central and South America, theMiddle East and Asia/Pacific. It is present in Europe througha licensee, he said.
