Imaging center firm InSight Health Services has signed a letter of intent to purchase Signal Medical Services in an acquisition that would bring a significant fleet of mobile units to InSight's operations. It would also add three new states-Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont-to InSight's stable of centers.

Signal operates 19 mobile MRI units, four mobile lithotripters, three fixed-site MRI centers, three fixed-site multimodality imaging centers, and one fixed-site CT center. Farmington, CT-based Signal posted 1997 revenues of around $21 million, according to InSight, which is headquartered in Newport Beach, CA. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
