S. David Ellenbogen, Hologic’s chair and CEO, died unexpectedly June 21 from heart failure. A pioneer of bone densitometry, Ellenbogen cofounded Hologic and served as CEO and chair since its formation 16 years ago. In addition to corporate duties at Hologic, Ellenbogen lobbied state and federal officials on behalf of small companies throughout the medical device industry. His professional efforts underscored the integrity and good will that friends and associates experienced firsthand. Jay A. Stein, executive vice president and CTO, has been appointed Hologic chair. Stein will serve as interim CEO, until the company’s board of directors fills the position permanently.
