The Health Industry Manufacturers Association this month changed its name to AdvaMed to reflect the advocacy role the association plays in ensuring patient access to medical technologies.

The Washington, DC-based association was founded in 1974 and represents 800 manufacturers of medical devices, diagnostic products, and medical information systems. AdvaMed’s members produce nearly 90% of the $62 billion in healthcare technology products used in the U.S. annually and nearly 50% of the $147 billion in products purchased around the world, according to the association.
